CHRYSLER SUPERBOWL COMMERCIAL OFFENDS KARL ROVE
Former President Bush’s political mastermind Karl Rove was offended by the latest Chrysler Super Bowl commercial. Mr. Rove stated that he was offended because of the political overtones 9 months before the November presidential election. Mr. Rove stated that it was President George W. Bush who initiated the bailout for Chrysler and GM in the final days of his administration and was continued under President Obama.
INDIANA BECOMES THE 23TH STATE TO GO RIGHT TO WORK
Earlier this week Indiana Gov. Daniels (R) signed legislation to make Indiana a right to work state, becoming the 23th state in the Union and the 1st in the Midwest. Gov. Daniels believes that by Indiana being a right to work state it will make Indiana competitive to bring jobs to the state and turn the state economy around. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Lower wages, inferior working conditions and being an at will employee will only hurt Indiana workers and their families. The standard of living will decrease along with the cost of living.
As you read this, petitions are being sent around Ohio by the same people that were able to get State Issue 3 on last year’s ballot and that was passed by the voter’s, to turn Ohio into the 24th state in the union and the 2nd in the Midwest to become a right to work state. We in the labor movement are going to have a hell of a fight on our hands, if this gets placed on this year’s ballot. We need to be educated on what it means to be a right to work state and how it can affect your job, your standard of living and working conditions. Remember it is the Union that fought for a 40 hour work week, fought for safer working conditions and fair wages for all. The Union didn’t only fight just for its members, but for all workers.
Martin Luther King once said, “In our glorious fight for civil rights, we must guard against being fooled by false slogans as ‘right-to-work.’ It provides no ‘rights’ and no ‘work.’ Its purpose is to destroy labor unions and the freedom of collective bargaining. We demand this fraud be stopped.”
Brothers and sisters we need to stand up for our rights and demand this fraud and all other frauds against labor unions and the American workers stopped. The war against the middle class is nowhere from the being over. Stand up and be heard. Contact your state representatives and stated senators. Let them know just how you feel and let them know that we vote from our wallets. Let them know that if Ohio becomes a right-to-work state, that they have no right to work for the people of Ohio.
